I must say I’m flattered, truly. Someone has offered to buy my home at a price I never imagined it’d be worth, far more than I ever spent on it. It’s nice to know people have seen all the hard work I’ve done to create this stunning property and admire it, seeing the value just as I do.

Of course, I refused to sell it. Though I’m glad others find it impressive, I didn’t go at this to impress them or make money off it. This little bit of land, this home, it’s my oasis. A kind, quiet place to escape to, to forget the cruelty of the world I left behind.

Selling it would be a betrayal of everything it is. Everything I’ve put into it. Besides, a place this special was meant to house children who would never otherwise get the chance to live this kind of life and me. This house shelters us, takes care of us. It’s become its own mutually beneficial ecosystem, and I would never shatter that dream.

It does feel nice, though, knowing I can provide the children with a home others envy, especially for Gabriella and Stephan. Maybe I’m just getting older, but these children seem special, and I think they’ll stay with me for a while. We fit like the perfect family unit, and I’m honored to give them a safe place after the trauma they went through. What those parents did… It’s ghastly to think about. After everything, I wonder how they’re able to laugh and play, smile like they do.

These children are an inspiration to me. This house is a miracle. I’m so proud of the life I created, even if admittedly I have a few regrets.
